Are Bloggers Lying To You?

Pretty in Pastel OOTD

Last night I attended the Irish Beauty Blog Awards 2016 in Dublin city. I wore a dressy casual outfit and *shock! horror!* I actually wore colours. That’s right! I stepped away from my usual uniform of all black clothing to try something different from a change. Summer is all about wearing bright colours so I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and wear an all-colour outfit for once.

I have always been drawn to pretty pastel colours and I really enjoyed wearing this combination of baby pink and baby blue shades together, paired with some light grey jeans. I kept my accessories simple by just wearing a beautiful statement hairband that really completed my look for the night.

LUSH Snow Fairy Shower Gel Review (Limited Edition)

This past Christmas I received a little LUSH surprise that included the coveted Snow Fairy Shower Gel! This was my first experience trying a LUSH shower gel and I was excited to test out this cute pink bottle of joy! Unfortunately this product is exclusively available around the Christmas period.

It is most certainly worth savoring if you get one as a gift or buying it in bulk if you really love it.

My first impression of the Snow Fairy shower gel was that it smelled absolutely amazing, like cotton candy but the scent isn’t overpowering like most cotton candy scents can be. I use this every time I get in the shower (luckily, I ended up getting two of these 100g bottles for Chrtismas!) and it’s creamy texture allows it to lather up really well and it feels lovely on my skin.

The gel itself has a pearl sheen and contains tiny little specks of glitter to leave your skin glowing after each shower or bath. According to my research, it is one of the biggest sellers at LUSH and apparently, Snow Fairy can also double up as a shampoo! I haven’t tried that out yet personally so I can’t vouch for it as a shampoo. However, a lot of the products from LUSH are incredibly versatile and can be used in many different ways as a part of your beauty routine.

Pro’s of the LUSH Snow Fairy Shower Gel:

  • It smells amazing & lathers up beautifully
  • Leaves my skin feeling soft and smelling great
  • Makes shower-time more fun!

Con’s of the LUSH Snow Fairy Shower Gel:

  • You can only buy it during the Christmas season *cries*

Are LUSH products cruelty free?

Overall thoughts on the product:

I would recommend trying Snow Fairy, it’s cute and contains carrageenan seaweed extract which helps soften the skin, even during cold weather. The packaging is really pretty and even the little 100g sample I got as a part of a LUSH Christmas gift set is still lasting me ages.

The Biggest Trends of S/S 2016

Brighter, braver and bolder than ever! Spring/Summer 2016 style takes us back to our nostalgic years and encourages us to take a step out of our comfort zone and try new things. The days are finally getting longer, the nights are getting brighter and the seasons are changing and so should our wardrobes.

Get ready to embrace these beautiful changes and allow yourself to be captivated by the metamorphosis of this seasons latest trends. With a diverse mixture of retro stylings, bursts of bright colours and artistic cuts, now is the time to let the new you out. Experiment with fashion, express yourself through style and fall in love with this season’s biggest trends.

Graphic Stipes & Architectural Prints

A trend that is set to take over summer fashion is graphic stripes. Fashion houses like Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney and Jonathan Saunders all featured striped clothing in their S/S collections. Zig-zag and horizontal patterns were a huge part of Dolce & Gabbana’s S/S 2016 runway shows. Their fabulous collections featured clothing with romantic nautical stylings and nods to retro holiday fashion, each clothing item created with bold coloured fabrics such as rich reds, bright yellows and 50’s inspired silhouettes to create an eye catching and versatile look for any occasion. Graphic handbags are a great way to incorporate this trend into your summer wardrobe, bold and dramatically striped hand bags can really make a simple outfit pop.

Other renowned fashion houses like Dior decided to take a more modern approach to this funky trend by creating prints with wider, more graphic stripes and layered shades to really drive home this high impact look. As well as been incredibly on trend, stripes are also timeless. They were not only popular in the 50’s and 60’s but also in the 90’s grunge era by music lovers and rock stars alike. There are so many ways to wear stripes to suit your own personal style, you can mix and match them with other striped prints or wear them with simple pieces such as a classic white shirt or trousers. Try wearing stripes with one of your favourite bold colours if you are really feeling brave this season.

Reinventing our youth

Speaking of grunge, it seems the 90’s are well and truly back in style! Alexander Wang, Chloe and Saint Laurent all took a stand in their S/S 2016 fashion shows to bring this classic style back into 2016 fashion with a fresher approach. Saint Laurent’s menswear collection is heavily inspired by grunge bands from the 90’s and the iconic and late Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain. Male models were styled wearing plaid shirts, denim, eccentrically patterned jackets and white sunglasses. Saint Laurent also took inspiration from the era by paying tribute to famous 90s fashionistas such as Kate Moss and Courtney Love, by styling their models in sparkling sequined dresses, tiaras, oversized jackets and silky slip dresses. That’s right, slip dresses. Wearing underwear as outerwear has been tipped as a lead concept for SS16 fashion. Slinky chiffon dresses trimmed with feminine lace was a key part of the Celine and Saint Laurent S/S collections.

This year’s summer fashion trends are inviting us back to our glory days, allowing us to resurface old trends and revitalise them by incorporation modern pieces to our looks. So if you are looking for a fashion forward jacket to wear this summer, make it a bomber jacket! Whether you opt for a minimalist leather zip-up or an eye catching statement print, the bomber jacket is the perfect jacket for summer. Made famous by films like Vanilla Sky and Grease, bomber jackets have been spotted recently on the likes of supermodels like Gigi Hadid, Karli Kloss and Kendall Jenner, meaning the classic jacket is well and truly back in style this season.

High Shine Fabrics

A great way to take your look to the next level this season is to take inspiration from spring and summer elements such as light and bright colours and incorporate them into your style. Fashion designer JW Anderson reflected this beautifully (pardon the pun!) in this summer collection by using high-shine fabrics, reflective clothing and embellished sweaters with broken mirror pieces.

Spring/Summer fashion is all about having fun and letting your personality shine. If wearing extreme fabrics isn’t your thing, wearing sequinned fabrics is a fantastic way to pull this look off without going too far outside of your comfort zone. Fashion houses Lanvin and Calvin Klein styled sequined dresses and long sequinned coats along with simple monochrome pieces to create a sophisticated yet stylish looks for their summer collections.

Embellished Handbags & Luxe Sportswear

No matter what styles you choose to embrace this season, make sure you to focus on statement pieces. They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend but any fashionista will tell you that a good handbag can help you pull off almost any look and complete almost any outfit.

Whether you are a lover of vintage satchels or the classic clutch take a note from designers such as Marc Jacobs, Fendi and Versace, who each included beautifully crafted embellished and DIY inspired handbags in their summer collections. Have some fun styling embellished handbags with your summer looks, the more eye-catching the better! You can even get creative and style your own handbag with patches, beads, badges and other unique embellishments. If handbags are not your thing then fear not because embellished backpacks are also going to be huge this season. Backpacks aren’t just for kids anymore, this dressy-casual trend introduces elements of high fashion and sportswear together to create a stylish, modern take on the classic backpack silhouette.

Summer is a time for change and renewal in all aspects of life, so why should it be any different when it comes to your wardrobe? Whether you decided to wear artistic prints, brighter colours or take inspiration from times gone by, make sure you are having fun with fashion this season. Let your creative side take over. Express yourself this summer!

3 Easy Ways I DIY My Clothes!

The Importance of Blogger Transparency & Sponsorships

We live in a digital age where most people on this planet life their lives online via social media. Gone are the days where someone could laugh at you for wanting to become financially stable through blogging. These days it is very possible to make a living online and with thousands of people hanging on their favourite bloggers every word it is important to know that with great power comes great responsibility. That’s right, I made a Marvel reference in this blog.

But seriously, if there is one thing I have learned over the years, it is that when it comes to blogging you should never underestimate your audience. Respect your audience and your audience will respect you. People appreciate honesty and they can see right through fakeness and lies. Many successful loggers use their influence to make a living from their content and they often post sponsored blogs/videos to earn revenue. Let me start off by saying that there is nothing wrong with posting sponsored content. Everyone needs to make a living, there’s no denying that.

Source: sparklyblonde1

The issue that most people have with sponsored content is the fact that a lot of bloggers never disclose what is sponsored and what is not. As blogging is still a relatively new career path, the rules that apply to bloggers are still a little unclear but one thing is for sure, legally you have to let your followers know when you have been paid to review or display an item on your social media.

I can understand both sides of the coin in this situation. One one hand you have the viewers who want honesty from bloggers (totally understandable) and on the other hand you have bloggers who are terrified of being judged for accepting sponsored content. Most bloggers I know feel bad for posting sponsored content and they shouldn’t. It’s only fair that a person uses their talents and brand to make a decent living.

According to a poll done by only 33% of people trust bloggers, 74% of people have purchased an item based on a bloggers recommendation and 50% say that when a blogger works with a brand it affects trust negatively. These statistics prove that there needs to be a mutual trust between both the viewer and the creator in order to create a healthier dynamic online. Bloggers deserve to make money from their content and viewers deserve to know when an item or product has been sponsored.

Many friends of mine solely depend on blogging as their main form of income. I have seen people struggle to afford groceries, pay pills and not be able to afford critical health care, all because of the uncertainty of when the next paycheck will come through. Blogging isn’t as glam as it is made out to be, it’s bloody hard work and sometimes a sponsorship deal can make the difference between eating sufficient meals for the next week or living off tescos noodles until you get paid.

Also, I’d like to point out that sponsorship deals are not all they are cracked up to be. Sometimes bloggers can put hours, even days of work to get a video posted online at an agreed date, only to be told that they will not be paid for weeks to come. This type of situation can leave someone in a tough financial situation and can cause a lot of stress.

The fact of the matter is that we have to stop shaming bloggers for accepting sponsored content. Sponsorship should not be a dirty word that people are afraid to say out loud. I feel as though a lot of people think that whenever a blogger posts sponsored content that they automatically are lying when they give a positive review. Most bloggers will not review something they wouldn’t buy themselves or recommend something that they totally hated. As a blogger, I couldn’t recommend something that I wouldn’t use myself, what would be the point? I wouldn’t want to associate my name with a terrible brand or product. It just isn’t logical and it would be totally immoral.

Don’t get me wrong, I am sure there are plenty of people who would happily shill anything for a quick buck but most bloggers aren’t like that. You can usually suss out when someone is fake or not, which is another reason I think that bloggers should not underestimate their audience. People can sense when someone is genuine and when they are not.

In order to have complete transparency, we need to come together as a community, viewers and bloggers alike and start to be totally honest with each other. Sponsorship is not a dirty word. They pay peoples bills, put food on the table and allow bloggers to share some cool products with their followers, all while keeping a roof over their heads.

I think it is important that bloggers talk about these kinds of issues to their audience, sometimes I think we forget that our viewers often don’t understand how sponsorship’s work or how bloggers earn money from their content. Bloggers should try to inform and educate their audiences as much as possible and create a trusting relationship that is mutually beneficial. The only way things are going to change is if bloggers inform their audiences when they are being paid and be totally honest about it. It’s not something to be embarrassed about, it’s your right to earn money for your had work and it’s your audiences right to know when they are being showed paid advertisements.

Bleach London Rosé Shampoo and Conditioner Review

Bleach London are famous for their range of non-permanent hair colours and hair products. So when I heard they created a pink shampoo and conditioner I was delighted! I had only ever used colour toning shampoo’s when I had blonde hair and they were purple shampoo’s which I used in order to gain a silvery sheen. I was curious and excited to try out these funky little hair products!

However, this is not my first time to try out Bleach London products. I had previously purchased the Bleach London Reincarnation Mask and quite honestly, I wasn’t overly impressed with the results. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t a bad hair mask but it just didn’t give me the results I had expected and maybe that is my fault for having high expectations.

Regardless, I was eager to trying out the Rosé shampoo & conditioner from their range. Let me preface this review by letting you know that before using these products my hair was already dyed pink. I wanted to try out these products in order to find a way to keep my pink hair looking fresh and vibrant, without having to top it up with hair dye all the time.

Rosé Shampoo €8.49 (250ml)

This Rosé shampoo claims to cancel out any unwanted green tones in your hair and tint blonde hair to a soft pink colour. You can use this product daily to build up the pink hue and intensify the shade to one you desire. The information provided on the back of the bottle it suggest that you leave this product on your hair for at least 2-3 minutes to allow the shampoo to take effect.

I have been using this product to keep my hair from looking like a gross fading wreck (you know how it can be when fading out vibrant colours, nightmare!) but also allowing me to give my hair a break from hair dye. I usually leave this in for five minutes and then I rinse it out completely before applying the conditioner.

Although this shampoo does a decent job of cleaning my hair, I usually wash my hair with a regular shampoo beforehand to make sure I remove any impurities before I apply this product. I find my hair stays looking cleaner for longer this way as this shampoo doesn’t lather as well like regular shampoos. I see it as more of a light toner than a cleansing shampoo.

Rosé Conditioner €8.49 (250ml)

Honestly, I enjoy the Rosé ConditionerIn fact I prefer it over the shampoo as I can leave it in a little longer and it doesn’t dry out my hair as much. It is not a incredibly conditioning product but it does leave my hair feeling softer and subtly pinker. There is no major change after either of these products but they do help my keep my hair a light pastel shade.

I noticed that the Rosé conditioner smells much nicer than the Rose shampoo. The conditioner has a salon quality smell to it, if that makes sense? It smells light and feminine, whereas the shampoo smells almost plastic? It isn’t a terrible scent but it’s not exactly pleasant.

Pro’s of the Bleach London Rosé Shampoo & Conditioner:

  • They are useful for topping up pink hair without the use of dye
  • The product creates a nice pastel tint on blonde hair
  • The packaging is really nice

Con’s of the Bleach London Rosé Shampoo & Conditioner

  • They are a bit pricey if you plan on using them on a daily/regular basis
  • Both products aren’t as nourishing as you might expect for the price

Are Bleach London Cruelty Free?

Bleach London claim to be cruelty free (although I could not find any information based on this claim on their website or on their packaging) and upon researching this brand I discovered that they are owned by a testing parent company. However, they did post this tweet in 2013.

Where can I buy Bleach London products?

You can buy Bleach London products in almost any Boots store nationwide.

Overall thoughts on the product:

So far, Bleach London have yet to win me over as a fan for life but I do think they have some fun and quirky products that are perfect for anyone who wants to try out colourful hair but is too afraid or cannot commit to the colour long term. These tinted shampoos and conditioners are a great way to experiment with your hair without making a drastic or permanent change. They are apart of my hair routine at the moment and I will probably repurchase them again in the future if I decide to try out a pastel look without wanting to use hair dye.
