STELLAR Shine Awards 2014!

Last night I attended the first ever STELLAR Shine Awards in the Spencer Hotel, Dublin City. The Shine Awards is dedicated to recognizing young Irish women aged 18 to 35 in categories such as best actress, singer, t.v presenter, sports star, author etc. I was truly honored to be nominated in the Best Blogger/Vlogger category, which felt like such an amazing achievement.

I was nominated alongside some of the best and brightest female bloggers in Ireland. I come from a small rural town, so being recognized at the Shine Awards really was a dream come true for me.

The event was sponsored by John Frieda and drinks on the night were provided by Stolichnaya Premium Vodka. Needless to say I had a few beverages, I can never say no to a cocktail, especially if it’s free, Yum Yum! Before the awards were announced I mingled with a few other guests and met some lovely people. It wasn’t long before the awards were underway and STELLAR editor Susan Vasquez took to the stage to announce the winners from each category.

The room was buzzing with excitement and everyone was cheering and clapping as each winner took to the stage. Unfortunately, I didn’t win in the category I was nominated for. My category was filled with big names in blogging, so I knew I wasn’t going to win, to be totally honest with you.

I was just glad to be there, experiencing the event and knowing that it was an achievement in itself to get this far. Being at the Shine Awards among such talent has only made me even more motivated to become a better blogger/vlogger and hey, you know what? There’s always next year!

SAM_4173There was so many wonderfully talented women at the event, it really was hard not to be inspired. During the night I met some really great people, including a lovely woman named Caroline Finnerty who was nominated for Best Author. She has written three books titled ‘In a Moment’ & ‘The Last Goodbye’ & ‘Into the Night Sky’. Check out her published work at carolinefinnerty.ie

At the end of the night we were given a goodie bag filled with beauty products. Which of course featured some hair care products from John Frieda. I must admit that I was pretty chuffed with the Real Techniques brushes, I can’t wait to use them. They match my hair, haha! I’m so lame.

DSC_0562.jpgdoneI’d like to thank STELLAR for inviting me to such a wonderful event, I had a blast! A special thank you to Susan Vasquez and Kirstie McDermott, two wonderful women who have been nothing but kind & generous to me. I am delighted that I was able to achieve my goal of being featured in STELLAR this year and to somehow mange to be nominated at the Shine Awards 2014.

Thank you so much to everyone who nominated me and voted for me. It means the world to me.

Who knows, maybe i’ll be luckier next year? 😉

My artRAVE Look! Aphrodite Lady.

This Friday I attended Lady Gaga’s artRAVE in the 3Arena, Co.Dublin. The concert was spectacular, i’ve seen Gaga live before and I knew that she was going to blow the roof off the place. The costume changes, the songs and the beautifully emotional speeches she did were all perfect. I am obsessed with her latest album, which is called Artpop. She preformed loads of new songs from the album on the night, which made me really happy and quite honestly, weeded out the real Little Monsters from the people who were just there to hear the hits and get drunk.

My artRAVE outfit was inspired by a track off Artpop, called “Venus”. I wore my silver Mermaid dress from romwe, along with a long pastel pink wig and starfish hair clip from ebay. mer

If you ever get the chance to see Lady Gaga preform live, I suggest you jump at the chance. She is a wonderful performer and is a rare breed of popstar, in the fact that she sings live and can put on a show while doing so. Her energy is contagious and her spirit even more so. She’s a true icon.

MCM Comic Con Dublin 2014

This weekend I attended the first day of the Irish MCM Comic Con. The two day event was held in the RDS in Ballsbridge Co.Dublin and was the first convention MCM has ever held Ireland. It was an absolutely fantastic day out for anyone who is a fan of sc-fi, comic books & gaming.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I arrived at the RDS but I was blown away by the crowds of people that turned up for the event. There was people of all ages attending the convention and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of people that arrived in cosplay! I didn’t cosplay for the event due to the amount of travelling I would have to do that day, but if the event comes back next year, expect to see me in full on cosplay mode!

It took about 20 minutes to get through the que and enter the convention. The tickets at the door cost €12 per person and entry for kids was completely free of charge. Upon entering the main hall I was overwhelmed by the amount of stuff there was to do and see. It was pure geek heaven! There was something for everyone at the convention. Gaming stations, autograph signings, face painting, cosplay & art competitions. Also, guest talks, Yu-Gi-Oh! tournaments, live wrestling and stalls upon stalls of wonderful geek related merchandise to browse.

The comic village section was full of talented artists. Who were demonstrating their art work and selling issues of their comic book series as well as drawing illustrations on the spot for people interested in owning some original art work. I bought this Harley Quinn art work from a very talented young artist named Anastasia(artwork below)

As a cosplayer, one of my favorite parts of attending a convention is seeing the wonderful array of costumes people wear. I spotted King Joffrey and I had to give him a piece of my mind! :p

Fotor0413124312During the day I got the chance meet some really nice sci-fi and fantasy actors and actresses, from shows like A Town Called Eureka, Merlin & Primeval. There was also guests from Dr.Who, Red Dwarf & Sleepy Hollow on the day. A stand out guest for me was Colin Ferguson from A Town Called Eureka, he was very funny and was more than happy to stand and chat.

Fotor0413144331Here are some of the items I picked up at the MCM Comic Con.

There was so much to choose from. I was overwhelmed by the variety of merchandise that was on sale and at reasonable prices! They had some really amazing t-shirts so I picked up this Dr. Who tee, along with my Harley art work and this Daenerys Targaryen figure. DSC_0048

I had a brilliant time at the convention. Everyone was so friendly and the atmosphere was electric with excitement! It just goes to show that there is a market for events like this in Ireland. The huge number of people who turned up to attend the event proves that point. The enthusiasm and passion for the event shown by the fans and convention staff alike was wonderful to see. I really hope that MCM decides return to Ireland next year and make Ireland one of their regular annual convention destinations. things

  • If you don’t want to stand in line to get in, pay that little bit extra for a priority ticket.
  • Bring a bottle of water with you because it can be exhausting walking around all day.
  • Make sure you bring some snacks along with you to keep your energy levels up.
  • If you are going to cosplay, know that you will be stopped for pictures a lot.
  • Browse before buying. There is so much on offer you don’t want to impulse buy.
  • Save money before the con to take advantage of the amazing merchandise stalls.
  • Chat with the comic artists about their work. They gave me helpful advice about drawing!
  • Also by asking about their work you may discover a great new underground series to read.
  • Make sure to pick up leaflets/business cards from the stalls/artists you liked on the day.
  • At the end of the day, some vendors offered discounts & offers on certain merchandise!

Check out the MCM Comic Con website for more information & updates.

Haul: New Look, Tank Girl, Hair Dye & More!

On Thursday I spent the day in Dublin hanging out with my cousin Ciara. It was recently her birthday so we spent the day together to celebrate it. We went shopping around the city and had dinner in Bewley’s on Grafton Street. Every time I go there I always think of Courtney Love. When she used to study at Trinity College she used to go in there on her breaks and write song lyrics. They also do some really yummy pastas there which I love. On nom!

During the day I picked up a few random bits. I found these Tank Girl graphic novels in Chapters. They are usually very expensive so I was very surprised to get them at such a bargain price! If you have been wanted to read these then I suggest you get down to Chapters ASAP before they are all gone! You won’t find a better price anywhere else. Chapters if my favorite book shop in Dublin, I always find really good books there for excellent prices and it is one of the best places in the city to get books about the occult. Just FYI! :p

In Penny’s I picked up a few bits for when I move out soon. I picked up some cute tea towels and a wooden heart that had a cute floral pattern on it. I also picked up this Monsters University cup, it’s for kids obviously but I am such a huge fan of that film and of pixar in general. I had to buy it! It only cost me one euro so how could I say no! I also noticed that throughout the shops there was a trend happening that I wasn’t quite sure how to react to. A lot of the tops on sale where basketball jerseys with slogans printed on them and I even seen some Chicago Bulls tops on Forever 21. I guess the 90s are well and truly back!

After browsing through New Look I found these really awesome boots at the bargain price of 19 euros! They used to be 40 euros I nabbed them at sale price. They look really expensive and I really love the details in the straps and buckles. I really needed a new pair of boots so these showed up at the perfect time for me.

A lot of people have been asking me what dye I used to dye my hair purple. Currently I am using Special Effects in Wildflower and dilute it with hair conditioner before adding it to my hair. I bought a tub of Directions in Violet which I will use once the Special Effects dye runs out, I will also be diluting this. I am a loyal fan of directions, they are my “go to” company for colourful hair dye.

That evening we went to see The Book Thief in the cinema and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t already seen it. It is such a fantastic film but I will warn you, bring some tissues! There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when we saw it. I give it 9/10! GO SEE IT!

Thanks for reading. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Ellie.
