Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbanna are two of the most powerful gay men in fashion & the world. So you’d think they’d do everything in their power to support the LGBT community, right?!
In a recent interview with an Italian magazine D&G told the world what their thoughts are on gay couples being able to adopt. “We oppose gay adoptions,” they say, “The only family is the traditional one. No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed.” Domenico also stated “I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalogue. I am opposed to the idea of a child growing up with two gay parents.”
Their statement caused controversy and outrage among the gay community and pissed off the most famous gay father on the planet, Elton John. Elton has two sons born through a surrogate with husband David Furnish.
Elton took to his Instagram account to voice his anger:
“How dare you refer to my beautiful children as ‘synthetic’. And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfill their dream of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana”
It honestly baffles me how backwards people can be, especially when they are going against the current of their own social struggle. Dolce & Gabbana are just supporting the backward view that gay couples should not be allowed to have children. They are not only insulting many members of the LGBT community but couples who use IVF treatments to try to start a family.
In my personal opinion, family is about love, not DNA.
I have friends who were adopted as babies and have incredibly loving and supportive families. Family isn’t something you are born with most of the time, it is something you can create also. Family is unconditional love. Family is whatever you make it to be.
Family is affection without any limitations.
