Dublin Comic Con Vlog!

Dublin Shopping Guide: Carousel, Stephens Green Shopping Centre.

Stephens Green Shopping Centre & Exchequer Street, Dublin.

Recently, while on a girly day out with a friend, I came across Carousel. A independent shop in Dublin city centre that sells gorgeous, wearable vintage inspired clothing and accessories at reasonable prices. The window display reminded me of the 1950s clothing worn in the recent Saoirse Ronan film Brookyln and I was instantly draw in to take a peak at what was in store.

I walked into the shop and was greeted by a friendly (and beautifully dressed) member of staff. The first thing I noticed about the shop was the relaxed, chilled vibe and the variety of colours the beautiful clothes came in. The clothing they sell reminds me so much of something Zooey Deschanel would wear. Feminine, floaty dresses with kooky patterns and baby doll vibes.

Being in the shop creates a feeling of of nostalgia.

Isn’t it funny how you can be nostalgic for an era you never experienced?

Carousel also have an online store, where you can get clothing delivered directly to your door or if you live in Dublin, you can use the pick up service and reserve clothing online and pick it up the next day. Also, they have free delivery & returns on all Irish orders!

This shop is the perfect place to browse if you have a fascination with retro/vintage fashion and have enjoy the beautiful aesthetics of old films, books and music.

I’d definitely recommend popping in for a look and checking out what they have on offer!

STELLAR Shine Awards 2014!

Last night I attended the first ever STELLAR Shine Awards in the Spencer Hotel, Dublin City. The Shine Awards is dedicated to recognizing young Irish women aged 18 to 35 in categories such as best actress, singer, t.v presenter, sports star, author etc. I was truly honored to be nominated in the Best Blogger/Vlogger category, which felt like such an amazing achievement.

I was nominated alongside some of the best and brightest female bloggers in Ireland. I come from a small rural town, so being recognized at the Shine Awards really was a dream come true for me.

The event was sponsored by John Frieda and drinks on the night were provided by Stolichnaya Premium Vodka. Needless to say I had a few beverages, I can never say no to a cocktail, especially if it’s free, Yum Yum! Before the awards were announced I mingled with a few other guests and met some lovely people. It wasn’t long before the awards were underway and STELLAR editor Susan Vasquez took to the stage to announce the winners from each category.

The room was buzzing with excitement and everyone was cheering and clapping as each winner took to the stage. Unfortunately, I didn’t win in the category I was nominated for. My category was filled with big names in blogging, so I knew I wasn’t going to win, to be totally honest with you.

I was just glad to be there, experiencing the event and knowing that it was an achievement in itself to get this far. Being at the Shine Awards among such talent has only made me even more motivated to become a better blogger/vlogger and hey, you know what? There’s always next year!

SAM_4173There was so many wonderfully talented women at the event, it really was hard not to be inspired. During the night I met some really great people, including a lovely woman named Caroline Finnerty who was nominated for Best Author. She has written three books titled ‘In a Moment’ & ‘The Last Goodbye’ & ‘Into the Night Sky’. Check out her published work at carolinefinnerty.ie

At the end of the night we were given a goodie bag filled with beauty products. Which of course featured some hair care products from John Frieda. I must admit that I was pretty chuffed with the Real Techniques brushes, I can’t wait to use them. They match my hair, haha! I’m so lame.

DSC_0562.jpgdoneI’d like to thank STELLAR for inviting me to such a wonderful event, I had a blast! A special thank you to Susan Vasquez and Kirstie McDermott, two wonderful women who have been nothing but kind & generous to me. I am delighted that I was able to achieve my goal of being featured in STELLAR this year and to somehow mange to be nominated at the Shine Awards 2014.

Thank you so much to everyone who nominated me and voted for me. It means the world to me.

Who knows, maybe i’ll be luckier next year? 😉

My artRAVE Look! Aphrodite Lady.

This Friday I attended Lady Gaga’s artRAVE in the 3Arena, Co.Dublin. The concert was spectacular, i’ve seen Gaga live before and I knew that she was going to blow the roof off the place. The costume changes, the songs and the beautifully emotional speeches she did were all perfect. I am obsessed with her latest album, which is called Artpop. She preformed loads of new songs from the album on the night, which made me really happy and quite honestly, weeded out the real Little Monsters from the people who were just there to hear the hits and get drunk.

My artRAVE outfit was inspired by a track off Artpop, called “Venus”. I wore my silver Mermaid dress from romwe, along with a long pastel pink wig and starfish hair clip from ebay. mer

If you ever get the chance to see Lady Gaga preform live, I suggest you jump at the chance. She is a wonderful performer and is a rare breed of popstar, in the fact that she sings live and can put on a show while doing so. Her energy is contagious and her spirit even more so. She’s a true icon.

xoxo

Dublin Comic Con 2014!

dcc2

On the weekend of August 9th & 10th, I attended the second annual Dublin City Comic Con for the first time. I traveled to Dublin with two friends of mine, we stayed in a hotel close by to the convention and were ready for a fun filled weekend of geeky enjoyment and cosplaying!

There was so much to see and do at Dublin City Comic Con, such as movie props & costumes, fake sets, interactive sets, vendors, artwork, merchandise, archery, a zombie survival course, panel discussions and autograph signings etc. It was an amazing weekend event for all.

On Sunday I cosplayed as a female Quicksilver (above) and on the day I met loads of amazing cosplayers who cosplayed as some of my favorite characters. It was amazing to see so many people enjoying cosplay and getting excellent feedback for their costumes.

My friend Tom did a rule 63 Catwoman cosplay which was fantastic! (below)

One of my favorite cosplays of the entire weekend was this Batman/Gotham inspired family Cosplay! I thought the kids make up was fantastic and the attention to detail of each of their costumes was amazing. I also saw other family cosplays, there was a few Dad’s dressed up as Batman while pushing strollers around the convention floor and there was toddlers and babies dressed in all in one superhero costumes. It was adorable to say the least!

One of the coolest things to ever happen, happened to me. I MET XENA WARRIOR PRINCESS!

And of course, I bowed in worship. “I’m not worthy! I’m not worthy!”

All the cosplayers I met during the weekend were so lovely and happy to take photo’s with people who admired their costumes. There was a really great atmosphere, especially on the Sunday. Everyone bonded over their love for sci-fi, it was such a fantastic experience.

There was so many fantastic sets on display on the floor of the convention. There was so many stalls selling different kinds of merchandise from all kinds of fandoms. You could buy custom artwork from artists, comics, autographs, pretty much everything and anything you can think of in regards to geek related culture, Dublin Comic Con probably had it.Fotor0815202428

If you’re thinking of attending Dublin Comic Con next year, or any convention for that matter and want to cosplay ,I strongly advise you to take the plunge and cosplay! It really adds to the con experience and gives you a confidence boost as well as a great way to start conversations with other con goers. Soon enough you’ll get the cosplay bug! WARNING: IT’S AWESOME.

I had a wonderful time experiencing my first time at Dublin Comic con, it definitely won’t be my last visit! I already can not wait for my next opportunity to cosplay at a convention. I also out together a Dublin Comic Con Vlog if you’d like to hear more about my convention experience.

Dublin Comic Con, i’ll see you again next year!
